Even if they are merely buried, they follow us to our original worlds. Those who have left cannot suddenly return and tell us about the first people who found themselves here. We are missing a great part of this village's history.

Pencils, as she said.

[Not that Cecil knew that two hours ago.]

Do you favor any particular type of pencil?

[Calm, Rydia. She takes a deep breath and looks back at Cecil.]

I know. We won't ever be able to make up for that completely, but we'll do what we can. I think it will make a difference.

[Cecil isn't quite as emotionally invested in this as she is, admittedly.]

You've been here for some time, have you not? Do you know who are the earliest residents of this village?

Hm...I can't say for sure how long everyone's been here, but there are a few who where already established when I first arrived. Those who have been here the longest have been present for at least three years, now.

[She paces, making sure to keep clear of Cecil's writing supplies.]

Golbez, of course...and that fiend of wind.

[Rydia says that last part with pure distaste, quickly moving on.]

The teachers in the school -Raine and Gelda- have been here for a long time, too. Martel, too, though she left and has recently returned without her memories of her previous time.

How do you choose your brush and ink?

[He deposits the book on his bed before starting pick all the pens and pencils up.]

Perhaps one of them has taken notes on arrivals and departures, though I sincerely doubt it. Otherwise, they'd probably have given the information to Archie. Then again, my broth does have a rather good memory...

[With the whole 'realizing your enemy is actually your brother because his face kinda resembles your mom' thing.]

Teachers might have records of their students, and I doubt there were no disappearances among them.

[Rydia helps him with picking up the writing materials.]

They would probably be the best people to ask, them and Golbez. I'm sure they remember even more people than I do, and most of mine were close friends. Those who own the restaurants and pubs might make good sources, also. They must see a lot of villagers.

I could see that it would be of great use to those who have such experiences.

[He knows if he ever left and returned, he'd want to rebuild certain relationships that happened.]

I would like to know, if you find a way.

Hand-writing and drawing is not lost on my age. But writing on the journals would be faster with keyboards.

Then again, if they see too many faces, they might have trouble recalling any particular ones.

It'd certainly be more familiar to many. Such small details can go a long way in making you feel at ease and welcome.

It would also help a fraction of the newcomers find allies in a world they'll undoubtedly not trust at first.

What kind of paper are you working with?

Waxy colored sticks? Do you mean crayons?

It's possible, but you never know unless you ask. Some people have really good memories.

...Having such a good memory must seem like a curse, sometimes.

It looks overly white and smooth. Somewhat like the one used for the journals.

Is that what they are called?

Oh, I see. Most pens or pencils work on it.

Yeah. They can used for art, or writing. They're usually used by children.

Considering the number of children in the village, taking a few would be a good idea. Thank you for your help.

Sometimes, it is...but only sometimes. It's not easy, but I'd still rather remember than not, you know?

I feel the same way, but I doubt everyone has the strength to accept that.

I like the kind with the eraser at the end. [He knows 'eraser' but not 'pencil'?] That way, I don't lose it.

That does sound practical, especially if we need to keep many around.
