Not really... it took seven years for the Deku Sprout to grow. A little after the Great Deku Tree died, a man called Ganondorf took over. [His expression darkens a little.] The Deku Sprout only grew when I stopped the monster in the Forest Temple and awakened the Sage.

...It seems all the worlds have their own stories of attacks and invasions. Was the Sprout harmed, during those seven years?

[Good question.] I don't think so... it was underground. It was almost as big as me when it finally appeared, so I guess it was fine!

[His dignity... not so much.]

That does sound like a healthy sprout. Did it seem in high spirits?

Uh huh! It was really cheerful - the Great Deku Tree was always really serious. I guess that was because he was really old, huh?

Even the elderly can be high-spirited, but many of them do tend to be calmer and wiser.

Yeah... he wasn't grumpy or anything, but I guess he was really calm and wise.

He sounds like the sort of person you'd visit to receive advice and stories.

Uh huh. He taught us, and if people had problems, you could go to see him.

He was somewhat like everyone's grandfather, then?

[Hold on, trying to think of what a grandfather is.] Oh - yeah! He was sort of the father as well, though.

It seems as though he played many roles in your community.

Yeah... he just looked after all of us, I guess.

I hope the young sprout will be able to do the same for future generation.

I bet he will. The forest is going to last forever. [Total confidence, here.]

Of course it will, if it is protected by a wise spirit.

Uh huh. And when the Sprout gets really old, I bet another one will take its place!

With such a cycle, your forest should be safe for quite a long time still.

Uh huh. It's good - the forest is really special.

To its inhabitants, or on a larger scale?

[...Good question.] I don't really know. It's really important to everyone who lives in it, but outside of the forest, people think it's really strange. They'd never met anyone from there.

Secretive lands often have great powers. It must be important to your whole world, somehow.

Maybe. [A brief smile.] It's kind of nice that I'm from there, then, huh?

Of course. Having a homeland is always wonderful.
