Rosa Farrell has left Luceti.

[It comes abruptly, harshly, flatly. Cecil does not sound in terrible pain as he did the last time he had to make such an announcement. In fact, he sounds very much as though he's forgotten how to inflect.]

...She's left roses and notes for everyone she's met here. Please come pick them up when you have the time.

[That's all he has the energy to say.]

[And that was what Golbez was looking for. Draping an arm over his brother's shoulder, he pulls him close in a silent encouragement to let it all out. His pain, his anger, his sorrow... Golbez will help him bear it all.]

[And Cecil goes back to waiting by the window, lost in thought the whole time.]

[Cecil just stands there the whole time. He looks more than a little lost.]

[But for all his uncertainty, he takes out two cups along with the box of tea bags.]

Their actions? Their whole manner of thinking, their very goal is despicable! The world would be better off if they'd just die-

[But that sounds too much like words he said months and months ago, and he stops.]

[...Pretend to be fine, and in doing so openly lie to Ceodore. Say exactly what is on his mind, and burden Ceodore with that much history and feelings. What to chose?]

...It only just happened, and I already miss her. I should cope better by now.

Cecil...

[Golbez squeezes his brother's shoulders tightly.]

No one could blame you for thinking that way. Not after what they've done, what they've proven of themselves. They have no care for us, they see everyone in this enclosure as a means to an end. Their arrogance is... unspeakable.

It's as if lives have no value to them beyond temporary uses! That sort of thinking is always unforgivable!

[He knows paladin are supposed to forgive, to accept, to protect. But right now he feels too angry to even think of that.]

[Kain returns soon enough, going to find Cecil once he's there.]

[Ceodore shifts awkwardly and glances away. For all his eyerolling and attitude about his parents and their PDA, he knows they mean the world to each other and this separation hardly seems right.

It's not right. And he plans to do something about it. Something pretty stupid. He jerks his head up with a blatant defiant look and locked jaw.]

Not for long.

[He's going to bash down that damned barrier and send them back or nearly kill himself trying.]

[For a man whose wife has just disappeared, Cecil looks surprisingly calm. But the way the windowsill cracks beneath his fingers shows that it's a deliberate front.]

[Oh, Ceodore. That's the sort of look that helps him believe that they'll defeat the Creator, that they'll save their world. But that's also the sort of look that lets him know this world will disappoint his son.]

Kain, Rydia and Golbez have been here for years. It'd take more power than we have now to truly change this world.

[When Grune turns back once the tea has steeped to give him the mug--well, now she's even more worried than before.

She holds it out to him, her expression sad.] Here. This will make you feel better.

[All the more reason for him to let it out in a safe environment. There's a lot of repression to deal with here.]

They have become so wrapped in their experiments, they have lost all sight of ethics, of restraint. For all their advanced abilities and technology, they are fools.

[A deep frown etches itself in Ceodore's face and if it's even possible, he's digging his heels in more stubborn than before.]

I am not giving up. We have to go back, no matter the cost.

[He's not smiling, not just yet. But he certainly looks grateful as he takes it.]

Fools? That would imply that they are not aware of what they've given up.

[He has trouble believing that.]

[He believes, at least.]

But we'll need more allies, more information about the Malnosso's technology, more powers that can counter it. Otherwise, they'll merely crush us and go back to their experiments.

[That's an improvement, at least. She'll take that as a good sign.

For just a moment, she hesitates. Then, she leans forward to press a kiss to his forehead. Most of the reason behind the action is simply because he's a good friend and she's worried about him. But...there's a small part of her that will never quite stop seeing him as someone to look after--as her child.

She looks slightly surprised at herself afterwards. Then she turns to pour her own mug of tea.]

When? When will that happen? It won't unless we do something.

[Probably not the best time for the boy to be asserting himself, but he more than anyone knows how desperate things are at home and a faux content life (at least how he sees it), is the last thing they need to resort to.]

They already took Mother. Who's next?

It's the caffeine. Helps with lethargy.

[She fills the kettle and sets it on the stove, but doesn't yet turn it on.] ... And it's the best thing for sadness.

[The gesture surprises him, a little, since most of his brain still remembers a motherless childhood and a motherless life, and watching Rosa be a mother is not the same thing at all.

But it felt very warm, and it's Grune, so it's not the bad kind of surprise at all. Perhaps he feels slightly better, already.]

Caffeine? It sounds more like an ingredient found in coffee. Would that be better...?

[He doesn't sound like he particularly cares for coffee at the moment.]

...Me, undoubtedly. The others have been here for too long, and you've only just arrived. I doubt they'd waste the effort they put in taking you.

[He sounds almost resigned about it. Almost. Because a part of him also wants to fight back, because every single fiber of his being refuses to leave his family behind.]

I meant more that they place less value on what they've abandoned than it deserves. Though... you're right, perhaps "foolish" isn't the correct word.
