My, it appears quite a few people are feeling unwell these days.

[Not that Cecil himself sounds remotely unwell. In fact, he seems to be surprisingly cheerful today.]

I'm afraid I cannot help everyone with that. However, a small dinner for the whole family should definitely cheer a few people I know up, don't you agree? Please show up promptly. I'd rather not have to drag you back home if I can avoid it.

[None of that makes the slightest bit of sense to Ceodore. The twins mentioned a fight, but they implied it was only with the girl who'd taken his father.]

I'm afraid I cannot allow you to do that. But don't worry! We can bring Selphie here, and Frey too if you wish, and after that you'll never have a reason to leave me again.

[That first part Ceodore's not even going to justify with a response. Probably one of the more mature decisions he's made in his life. But dear Crystals, he thought his mother was the overprotective one. What is this?]

So you'd simply allow them to keep her away, with no thought about the myriad ways we could help her at home? If she needs medicine, we can give it to her! Regular healing spells? Either of us can cast them! A particular diet? I'll learn to use all of those appliances if I have to! I only want to keep you all here by my side, is that truly so much to ask for?

[That's the sad thing about this, really. He actually does still care.]

[Teen attitude, what is this? It's unlike Ceodore to retaliate or retort with words, but he's still stung by the accusations flung at his head.]

...No matter, now. There is not enough bread for dinner in the house, and Cecil is the only one there to go buy it. An if he happens to walk by the clinic as he shops... Well, that's their problem, not his.]

[Oh hells no. Selphie is now SCARED. Spunky, she-can-do-anything Selphie. Dad is not allowed near her. If Cecil comes by the clinic, he'll find his son blocking the entrance to the patients.]

[Which means Cecil feels the stab of betrayal all over again. Any calmness he might have reached evaporates instantly.]

My, Ceodore, so eager to cut me to pieces?

We did have plans for a family dinner, do you not remember? Would you like to be the one to tell everyone that it has been tragically cancelled?
