[Luceti, Cecil has a question for you.]

Which would be easier to prepare: a roast, a stew or a meat pie?

[...Along with one that is slightly less horrifying.]

Also, after a mission, would you rather take the immediate rewards or the points we can trade? Those patches that can hide us from the droids look useful, but that '80%' of theirs is far from reassuring.

If it is his choice, I will accept it with a smile. But I will not request or even suggest it.

[Because he'd probably see a suggestion as a request anyway.]

I thought not. That boy is attentive to your words.

Too attentive, sometimes. I fear the disillusion will be painful.

...Finding out that someone you love has his or her own darkness is not easy.

[Even now, Cecil is terribly glad that his king had not truly been the one to send him to Mysidia and Mist.]

But it is a fact of life. Having darknes within someone does not change their goodness.

I know that now.

[After facing his own darkness once more, after-]

But I know that through years of experience. He'll not truly understand for himself for some time still.

Yet it is an experience he will need in order to grow.

He'll have it, I assure you. However, he'll not have it here.

You may attempt to guard him from that, but there is no controlling the Malnosso.

I am a paladin. If it is a blow, I can receive it in his stead.

Simply be aware of the consequences your actions will have upon him.

[A slightly bitter laugh from his side.]

I know them all too well.

[He might not quite be talking about the same actions.]

[Cecil, get your angst out of here.]

You must realize that sometimes it is the things that are painful that help him to grow and mature, nephew. Even if they are not pleasant for anyone.

[But he likes his angst!]

Realizing it and liking it are two very different things. Is it not normal for a father to wish to protect his son?

[voice]

[identity profile] beardpuddle.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[No. Angst is bad.]

True enough. But it is also normal for the son to move beyond his father's protection.

Can a prince truly be beyond a king's protection while keeping to his duties?

[voice]

[identity profile] beardpuddle.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
He does not have the duties of a prince here, does he?

He does. "Protect the weak and helpless." "Protect your people." "Be just, fair and honorable in your dealings." Living in another world does not change that.
