[It comes abruptly, harshly, flatly. Cecil does not sound in terrible pain as he did the last time he had to make such an announcement. In fact, he sounds very much as though he's forgotten how to inflect.]

[That's all he has the energy to say.]

[Grune...pauses. She doesn't tense, because she's never tense. But the thought of Cecil leaving, too--it makes her sad to think about.]

[Because if he does, it isn't fair for her to wish for him to stay, no matter how much she would miss him.]

Ten months after I arrived, or close enough to count. It's been a year and almost three months. Everyone else from my world has been here for more than three.

Because they are also the only opportunity we have of leaving the enclosure and seeing other villages, or even their own facilities. That is a source of information we simply cannot ignore. The points we earn can also be put to good use.

To think that our more tumultous history could prove such an odd boon... The universe is a strange place. But then, even we are not immune to their cruelty.

You have every right to hate them. I still hate them, and forever will.

No one would dare to try and take that right away from you. How lucky.

Perhaps there are people here who could answer that first question, or at least tell us how many were here when they arrived.

Can anyone truly be, even if they commit such cruelty themselves?

I cannot think of anyone who does, but we cannot afford to lose those options. They might be the key to our departure, someday.

Only if they have somehow managed to kill their emotions completely... Or gone quite mad.

That might help, but numbers seem to fluctuate a lot. Do you know anyone who has been here since the beginning?

About the Malnosso, or about our fellow captives?
