No good, they don't have... How does this even work? I'll stay away from it for now...

[Rummaging noises come from the journal, numerous but careful. It sounds like someone is exploring the item shop.]

I apologize for bothering everyone, but could anyone recommend objects that are helpful to a household? Specifically, objects that are necessary for a new arrival or that can keep the house organized and clean. I'm not familiar with most of the products I find here, and I'd rather not bring anything that is useless or dangerous home. I'd be most thankful for your help.

[He falls quiet, and for a few moments only the sounds of items being moved can be heard. It appears his message is over, but-]

Also, Ceodore. What blade are you currently using?

[With that, his post is truly over.]

Our airships have cannons that can aim at the sky and ground both. In theory, any naval attack would be intercepted from the safety of the skies.

And the ships aren't equipped with the same cannons?

No engineer has yet managed to build a cannon that can hit an airship from a normal ship. It might be possible in ten years, but not now. Thus, the airships are more versatile. We do keep a few sea vessels, but we've had no need to use them in years.

I suppose with gravity working against you it might be a bit more difficult, but certainly not a feat of ten years. [He's already trying to work it out in his head.] How fast and maneuverable are the airships?

The Red Wings can go as fast as 55 knots and can turn 90° in less than two minutes at maximum speed, though their crew would be rather jostled. The Enterprise can move and turn faster, but it is too expensive to mass-produce.

Fast, then, but if you can angle the canons and compensate for the recoil, you could simply wait until the airship passed by overhead and give them a full broadside. The mathematics involved, of course...if you treat the air between them the same as you'd treat the open sea...

However, if the airship has already passed by overhead, it has also probably already attacked. Could it be done before that, or would it be more complicated?

That's why you wouldn't wait for it to pass. The moment it's in front of your first cannon, you'd begin the broadside. Same as at sea. The trouble is that cannonfire arches, it doesn't stay on a true trajectory. You would have to aim a little above your target, as always, and have quite a lot of power behind it.

I think the power needed was the main issue for our engineers. Cid could probably do something about it, but the airships are his pet project. Dragging him away from them is impossible.

Additional gunpowder, strong cannons to withstand the pressure. It still leaves the problem of recoil. Still, I wouldn't think it would take ten years. Necessity alone usually provides.

If we depend on necessity, we'll not have them for decades, or until another threat from beyond the sky attacks again. I'll try to encourage it once I return, if I can remember to do so.

[There's not much that's more powerful than black powder, but he's still thinking. You can't just add gunpowder. He would think a ground or sea assault would be very effective against an air attack. Maybe because he can't imagine the navy being obsolete, ever.]

Yes, remembering. That is the trick.

Since our bodies are brought here and then returned home, I could write it on a piece of paper and always keep it on me. They might forget to take it away.
