18th moon [voice]

Rosa Farrell has left Luceti.

[It comes abruptly, harshly, flatly. Cecil does not sound in terrible pain as he did the last time he had to make such an announcement. In fact, he sounds very much as though he's forgotten how to inflect.]

...She's left roses and notes for everyone she's met here. Please come pick them up when you have the time.

[That's all he has the energy to say.]

paladinlost: (lost in thought)

...No Internet for six months.

That's good for most people, though it's a shame for city-dwellers.
anxiousgrace: (SIGH)

You never know, ME might just do that anyway.

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-01 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
In my experience, most city dwellers are too distracted to look up and realize what they're missing.
paladinlost: (curious)

...I'll be keeping Vista kthx.

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-01 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they live in cities, or because cities attract that sort of people?
anxiousgrace: (listening/staring into space)

Good luck with that.

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-02 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably a little of both. Cities have all sorts of people.
paladinlost: (faraway)

Thanks, I might need it every so often.

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
...That means that some of them must still care for the skies, surely.
anxiousgrace: (faint smile)

Everyone needs luck, now and again.

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-03 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
They usually take vacations. Visit places in the countryside, where you can see the stars.

...The problem, of course, is that the jobs are in the cities.
paladinlost: (flowy)

Especially with computers.

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-04 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
That makes sense. People are needed where people live in the first place, and not everyone is made for the life of a farmer.
anxiousgrace: (thoughtful)

Computers need a mix of luck, patience, and percussive maintenance.

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-04 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
That's how it works. Though farming is easier than ever in my time, so there's even less of a demand.
paladinlost: (err)

Along with regular blood sacrifices.

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-05 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
...Which would send the surplus of potential farmers to the city.
anxiousgrace: (SIGH)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-05 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Of course, there aren't enough jobs, even there, so some people are unemployed. But the government helps out; Where I live, even medical care is covered.
paladinlost: (curious)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-07 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is there no army that could take in a portion of the unemployed population?
anxiousgrace: (listening/staring into space)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-07 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
There is, but most people don't want to be in the army. Many don't qualify, either.
paladinlost: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-08 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
I can understand that, but it'd still be better than starving.
anxiousgrace: (SIGH)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-08 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Starving is not a problem for most people. The government helps people, and many can find work again. The problem is that many of the people who can't find a job aren't qualified for one, even n the military.
paladinlost: (confused)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-08 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Is there no way for them to take up apprenticeships, at least?
anxiousgrace: (Whut?)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-09 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I know of? For some jobs, maybe, but not many, and there's not much demand.
paladinlost: (err)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-09 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a shame. It's how most of my people find work, unless they take up family trades.
anxiousgrace: (SIGH)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-10 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Family businesses exist in my world, as well. But there are so many people that some just... fall through the cracks.
paladinlost: (peaceful)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-11 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
...There must be a lot of people in your world, for so many to be forgotten.
anxiousgrace: (faint smile)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It does. Almost 7 billion people. My country alone has over 30 million.
paladinlost: (dotdotdot)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-14 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
...My whole world's population could fit a few times in your country.
anxiousgrace: (thoughtful)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Especially considering the low population density. 3.3 people per square kilometer, or 9.27 per square mile. [Being a teacher has its benefits.]
paladinlost: (surprised)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-15 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
...How can a single country have so much space in it?
anxiousgrace: (tense smile)

[personal profile] anxiousgrace 2012-07-18 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. It's just big. And huge sections are just... empty. Frozen tundras and the like. [CANADA.]
paladinlost: (curious)

[personal profile] paladinlost 2012-07-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
...As in permanently frozen? How can that be possible?

[Good ol' melting Canada.]
