No good, they don't have... How does this even work? I'll stay away from it for now...

[Rummaging noises come from the journal, numerous but careful. It sounds like someone is exploring the item shop.]

I apologize for bothering everyone, but could anyone recommend objects that are helpful to a household? Specifically, objects that are necessary for a new arrival or that can keep the house organized and clean. I'm not familiar with most of the products I find here, and I'd rather not bring anything that is useless or dangerous home. I'd be most thankful for your help.

Definitely. The bond is there, and the magic...well, there are some differences, but plenty of similarities, too. We should give it a try!

Are you still much needed at the welcome center? i think I hear less and less New Feathers on the journals, these days.

You're right. The flood should be trickling off by now. The only thing I do in between cycles is resupply the places and recruit volunteers, but that's by no means a full-time duty.

Considering the local system, recruiting volunteers must be the most complicated part. Do they disappear often?

It varies a lot, since there's no set pattern as to how long people will stay here. Some last a long time, others only a couple of months. But that's why I recruit every cycle, so that there's always enough people around.

I asked someone else, but... Is there a list of the people who appeared and disappeared? With how long they stayed, how many times they came, whether they remembered... Something like a census, you could say.

Hm...not that I know of, really. There have been attempts made for that, but none in recent memory. Besides, sometimes it's hard to keep track of who's disappeared if they weren't here for long and lived alone.

...It seems like a shame, to completely forget some of those who have come before us. And with so many people that return without memories...

Maybe the memories are still there, just...buried somehow. Some return and eventually remember, but I'm not sure what the pattern is or if there is one.

It'd hoped that some sort of census would help with that, but if too many people are forgotten...

Some people would fall through the cracks, but a census could still give you a good general picture.

Do you think most villagers would be willing to answer?

It depends on what would be asked of them. Some people are very willing to share about themselves, while others prefer to keep a much lower profile. I've noticed that not everyone likes to talk about their powers or heritage, for example, but that doesn't mean everyone will be like that.

Perhaps it would be possible, with carefully worded questions. I'd like to ask everyone about people who have disappeared, too. We might not be able to discern any pattern from their disappearances, but recalling them would still be nice.

It would. Even if those people don't return, at least some good memories and stories can be shared. I don't think I've told you about who else shared our house, did I?

You did not. Do you mean the other people from our world who've since left?

No, I mean people that we met here in Luceti, like Selphie. Eiko was a little summoner girl and she lived with us for several months. I really do think our worlds must have been a lot alike; she even called her summons Eidolons.

[Giddy about that...and a little wistful now. Eiko disappeared a long time ago, but Rydia still misses her.]

Truly? Did you compare the Eidolons you can summon, to see just how alike our worlds can be? What about the rest of their magic? Are there others from her world here?

There were--another summoner girl, though one a bit older. It turns out we did have some Eidolons in common! Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, Odin, Leviathan...even Bahamut. And they had a few other Eidolons I didn't know about; then again, they didn't know of my mother's dragon, or Asura.

To think that there are worlds out there that have this much in common with ours... In that case, I might need to ask a few questions around soon enough. Perhaps we'll find more worlds that are like ours!

Their world even has two moons, and a red one...though no Lunarians. Still, that's a striking resemblance, isn't it?

No, but really only because the Summoners there have a horn in the middle their foreheads. They also don't have any equivalent of the Feymarch or Underworld.

Not knowing about the Feymarch or the Underworld could easily be explained, but not the horns. Should I be glad there are other worlds like ours, or sad you did not meet our distant ancestors or descendants?

It's okay that we weren't actually related. Just knowing that there are other summoners so close to what I am was a real treat. If they ever return, I'll point them out to you.
