Should anyone be visiting the item shop in the morning or early afternoon, they'll be graced with the presence of a paladin! ...Which would normally be an extremely banal and commonplace event, but today said paladin happens to be a) turning the whole place upside down while looking for something, b) muttering some nasty curses that are directed at the items available in the shop, not at its patrons, promise, and c) wearing a long-sleeved turtleneck shirt over his mouth that happens to muffle most of point b). In the middle of July, if one must be reminded.

Some weeks, waking up is just not worth it.]

The journal message comes later during the day, weary-sounding and still slightly muffled by that turtleneck.]

Would anyone be kind enough to help me find a razor? My visit to the item shop was... very fruitless. I'd owe you a favor in return, of course.

I had to. My healing powers are naturally weak; with the barrier's power restriction in place, they only work on the most minor of injuries. So I chose to learn from Nala, and then from Hyt out of elemental affinity.

Any sorta power like that would put you ahead of a lotta people, barrier or not, I think.

...I suppose I could still heal hairline bone fractures with some effort, which is better than nothing. But with Nala so easily accessible, even children can do better than that.

[Effort? The immortality Firo knows takes no effort, so he relaxes. There's also the fact that the immortals who scattered all over the earth to hide from Szilard would probably never speak about their ability so openly.]

...I guess. But can you really trust those guys?

...Who knows? Nala feels benevolent, at least, and Hyt is such a faint presence that you could hardly imagine it's working against us, but there's no way to truly tell.

[Firo pauses in his searching and looks over his shoulder at Cecil. He'd half expected to be dismissed as too paranoid--and he wonders if maybe he is, or if he's becoming too complacent in Luceti.]

I don't know. I don't wanna be too willing to trust anything here. But especially those guys, after what they did to us.

I'd never seen them act that way before; it seems more the exception than the norm. But then again, a few people did mention that it happened once before, and that those who were affected had to be killed.

[He's glad they didn't have to go that far this time, but still.]

[He whips around to fully face Cecil, too surprised to think about hiding it. He didn't think it could get that bad.]

[People come back in Luceti, but that still couldn't have been pleasant.]

Perhaps not all of them, but some certainly were, according to the people who were present back then. I have to wonder what exactly made it an undesired outcome, this time.

[He shakes his head and turns back to rummaging through the items. He's too busy puzzling over this new information to really give anything a good look, though.]

That's crazy. Who knows if we'll get lucky the next time they do that?

Possibly, but I'd not bet on it. It sometimes feels like it's always when we feel the most secure that the bad experiments hit us.

[He sets a flowery lampshade aside and move on to the next item.]

Yeah, you can say that again. Things'll be calm for a while, and then right when you're about to fall asleep, it all blows up.

[He shakes his head, smiling ruefully.]

I never thought I'd miss this about home, but at least somethin' was almost always happenin' there. It's better than goin' back and forth; you're already on your toes.

Would that not become extremely stressful over time? Not that dealing with attempts to destroy the world every few decades is any better, but still...

[At least during those decades he has nothing worse to worry about than isolated monster attacks.]

Oh, we'll stop it. We always do. But it does make one wonder if our grandchildren will someday have to deal with the same problems all over again.

Who keeps tryin' to mess it up? Even if you can stop 'em, that sounds pretty annoying.

Lunarians long sealed away, and... some sort of otherworldly being; I was taken here before I could find out what exactly it was. But their actions were nothing we could predict, sadly.

I'm not surprised. In my world, there's only life on the moon if you believe that told prank a newspaper pulled ages ago. And it's definitely not comin' down and attackin' us.

To be perfect truthful, we'd have thought the same over twenty years ago. Or during those seventeen years where we only had one moon.

How do you not notice if you have more than one moon? They're kinda big. And bright.

We always knew we had two. It's just that one of them left, and another appeared recently.

It was artificial, created by the Lunarians to host the remains of their civilization. I imagine their blueprints included engines and the means to use.
