No good, they don't have... How does this even work? I'll stay away from it for now...

[Rummaging noises come from the journal, numerous but careful. It sounds like someone is exploring the item shop.]

I apologize for bothering everyone, but could anyone recommend objects that are helpful to a household? Specifically, objects that are necessary for a new arrival or that can keep the house organized and clean. I'm not familiar with most of the products I find here, and I'd rather not bring anything that is useless or dangerous home. I'd be most thankful for your help.

[He falls quiet, and for a few moments only the sounds of items being moved can be heard. It appears his message is over, but-]

I can do that. Would you prefer one made of wood or one made of metal?

Metal. And...we could use some more light bulbs, too. They're much better than candles.

Lightbulbs? You'll have to describe those. How many do we need?

[She makes a quick sketch of one.]

That's not completely to scale, but you get the idea. I think we could do with a half-dozen. They should be packaged together.

Oh, those. I've seen them earlier. They are part of all those lamps in the house?

Right! But they run out of energy every so often, so we have to get new ones to replace them.

How long do they last, compared to candles?

A lot longer, it seems. We shouldn't have to replace them for a couple of months, maybe later than that.

That'S quite impressive. If only we could create such efficient candles...

Maybe through some kind of magic....

[Because high technology is related to magic, somehow.]

Or perhaps by mixing the wax with something? We'd have to ask a candlemaker for details.

Possibly, but either way we have a lot of conveniences here. Less drudgery and more doing what we would rather do, right?

At the very low price of drafts and experiments?

[She laughs, wryly.]

Hardly a low price, but if you only dwell on the negative, this place is bound to drive you mad. Enjoy the good that comes with it, at least until we can find a way to leave.

I'll think of lights that need not be replaced and of the great lack of local monsters, then.

Or monsters that only appear if we want them. The battle dome is a real boon, compared to what we had before.

We'll truly have to visit it all together, one of these days. What did you have before?

Kain and I have visited the Lunar Subterrane a lot, as well as Mount Ordeals.

We also revisited the Sealed Cave and the Giant of Babil...and plenty of other places you know. I could also show you how it was in the previous drafts, by recreating what was there, or we could even try a scenario from a completely different world.

That would be an excellent idea. I'll also be able to show you a few more locations, if you teach me how to do so. I already told Kain I'd introduce him to a few interesting monsters we've recently met.

I'd like that very much, Cecil! It's pretty easy to change the scenarios to your liking, once you get the hang of it. Some new locations would do us good...and you could show us more of your Bands, perhaps?

Of course I could. If possible, we should try all those we can use, even the one that involves your summoning powers. That means we'll have to bring my brother along, too.

I won't protest Golbez coming along. We work well enough together, though the same can't be said of Golbez and Kain...to put it mildly. He might listen if you mention it's for the sake of the drafts, but....

...Well, that will make that one Band rather troublesome to try. Teamwork is an important component, after all.
