[She wants to scoop him up into a hug. But he's eight inches taller than her, so he'll have to settle with the awkward upper arm hug, complete with a bag of fruit digging into his back, that she proceeds to give him.]

[The hug surprises him, but it does help a little. He takes the bag gratefully.]

Thank you again. Would you like something to drink?

That would be lovely, thanks. Do you have any tea?

We do; nearly everyone in the house drinks it. Please, follow me.

[He starts walking towards the kitchen.]

[She follows in silence until they arrive in the kitchen.]

You should probably have a cup, too. It'll do you good.

Perhaps it would, yes.

[But for all his uncertainty, he takes out two cups along with the box of tea bags.]

It's the caffeine. Helps with lethargy.

[She fills the kettle and sets it on the stove, but doesn't yet turn it on.] ... And it's the best thing for sadness.

Caffeine? It sounds more like an ingredient found in coffee. Would that be better...?

[He doesn't sound like he particularly cares for coffee at the moment.]

Well, yes, caffeine is found in coffee, but also in tea and chocolate. [Wait. Chocolate also has serotonin. WHY DID SHE NOT BRING ANY.

... Oh yeah, health.]

...I'll have to stock up on those once I feel strong enough to leave the house. We'll need them.

[They'll need them a lot.]

With a quick flick of a dial, the stove is on, the water is heating up, and she turns to look at him again.]

Who else lives here, anyway? Rydia and Kain?

[He nods.]

The two of them, along with Ceodore and Hiccup. Hiccup is the only one to come frmo a different world.

Ceodore came in the last cycle? You did say he wasn't here last month, right?

That's right.

[Finally, something approaching happiness touches his face.]

He returned a few weeks ago, without his memories.

That's something, at least. He's been here before?

[He nods.]

He arrived about a year before I did, and left about ten months later. It'll still take some time before my own stay lasts that long.

So this is the first time you've met him here... How long have you been here, anyway?

Ten months after I arrived, or close enough to count. It's been a year and almost three months. Everyone else from my world has been here for more than three.

And from what I hear, they are far from the oldest residents.

Makes you wonder how long this has been going on. And how much longer it will continue.

Perhaps there are people here who could answer that first question, or at least tell us how many were here when they arrived.

That might help, but numbers seem to fluctuate a lot. Do you know anyone who has been here since the beginning?

Not personally, whatever beginning that might be. Only old residents.

I wonder, how this did begin... Who were the first to be here? How did they figure their new lives out? It must have been even worse then, when there was no precedent.

Lots of tracking, a little note on the Taken list, and a lot of careful checking of tags.
